Sakana Fugu is an independent informational guide built and maintained by technology researchers who have been evaluating multi-agent AI orchestration systems since early 2025. We test AI tools, compare benchmarks, verify pricing claims, and document real-world usage patterns.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Sakana AI. Product names, logos, and brands are property of their respective owners.
Why we built this guide
When Sakana Fugu launched, we noticed a gap: most coverage was either marketing materials or brief news articles. There was no comprehensive, independent, regularly-updated guide that answered the practical questions developers and technical decision-makers actually ask:
- What does Fugu actually cost in practice, not just per-token?
- How do Fugu and Fugu Ultra perform on real tasks, not just published benchmarks?
- When should you choose Fugu over building your own multi-agent pipeline?
- What are the security, privacy, and compliance implications?

This guide is our attempt to answer those questions with data, examples, and honest analysis.
How we work
We base our analysis on publicly available information including official documentation, published benchmarks, pricing pages, community discussions, and our own hands-on testing. We update this guide regularly as new information becomes available.
Our content is original: every section includes our own testing results, comparative analysis, practical recommendations, and independent evaluation. We do not republish press releases or scrape content from other sites.
Our evaluation principles
- Data over claims : We verify performance claims against published benchmarks and our own testing where possible.
- Context matters : A tool that excels at code review may be mediocre at creative writing. We evaluate each use case separately.
- Price transparency : We break down real costs, not just advertised per-token rates.

- Regular updates : Pricing, features, and benchmarks change. We note the last-updated date on every major section.
