Questions we actually get

Sakana Fugu FAQ, answered only where a public source exists

Each answer is a decision or a stop. If the official page is silent, the answer says silent and points to the longer guide. This page is not a second homepage FAQ with the same five questions rewritten.

Cost

Can I calculate standard Fugu pay-as-you-go before I send traffic?

No reliable single public rate exists. Official copy bills one agent at that model’s rate and several agents at the top-tier model involved. The calculator therefore refuses Fugu. Use pricing explained.

Why did this site remove Cyber rates?

Because the live official pricing and product pages no longer publish them. Repeating $6 / $36 from a July snapshot would be a stale claim. Ask Sakana AI sales after access. See Cyber access.

Does a $20 subscription include a known token budget?

No public exact allowance is published. Official language is baseline, 10×, and 20×. That is not enough for a break-even formula. See subscription versus pay-as-you-go.

Why is my Ultra bill larger than input plus output?

Official Ultra usage fields include orchestration tokens as extra real usage. Persist the raw object. Walkthrough: orchestration tokens.

Access and region

Can EU or EEA production users use official Fugu?

Official product copy says not yet, while Sakana AI works toward GDPR and EU-specific compliance. Treat that as a product rule. Details: EU availability.

If Fugu works, does Cyber work?

No. Official Models docs require pay-as-you-go billing and a reviewed access request. A 403 after a successful fugu call is a different class of failure. See troubleshooting.

Is OpenRouter the same as the official console?

The product page lists OpenRouter, Vercel, and others. That is a listing. It does not prove identical rates, Cyber access, or training-data controls. See third-party access.

API and evaluation

Why did temperature do nothing?

Official Models documentation says several OpenAI-shaped fields are accepted but ignored. Do not put them in a settings UI. See API surfaces.

Should I hard-code fugu-ultra?

Only if you accept alias movement. On August 17 the alias defaulted to fugu-ultra-v1.1. Pin a versioned ID when experiments must be comparable. See pin model IDs.

Are the official benchmark numbers independently verified here?

No. This site reproduces selected vendor figures and tells you how to test your own work. Method: evaluation playbook.

When should I ignore Fugu entirely?

If every internal route must be named, official FAQ says Fugu will not expose that map. Use a self-managed graph. See Fugu versus self-managed and the chooser.

This publication

Is SakanaFugu.com operated by Sakana AI?

No. It is an independent editorial project. See About.

Does the site show ads today?

It has applied to Google AdSense with publisher ID pub-6762879731814955 and is not currently approved. Trust pages do not load the ad tag.

How do I report a stale number?

Email [email protected] with the URL, the sentence, and a first-party source. The dated log is on updates.

How to use this FAQ

If an answer is a stop, stop. Do not continue into a longer guide hoping a missing official number will appear. The glossary exists for definitions; the catalog exists for decisions; this page exists for the first filter. That split is the information increment. A single scrolling homepage cannot hold every stop without becoming another recap of the official product page.
